Board of Trustees Statement: June is Pride Month
As we acknowledge June is Pride Month, the Black Gold School Division’s Board of Trustees wishes to take this opportunity to affirm our commitment to fostering respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for all students, staff, and families.
Pride Month is a time to reflect on the importance of treating every individual with dignity and compassion, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. It is also a time to acknowledge the courage and resilience of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in the face of discrimination, harassment and adversity—past and present.
We recognize that many members of this community, especially youth, continue to face significant barriers to safety, belonging, and acceptance. As leaders in education, we have a responsibility to stand up against hate and intolerance in all forms, and to ensure our schools are places where diversity is not only respected, but truly valued. We continue to support gay-straight alliances in our schools and provide appropriate resources to help create safe and welcoming environments for all students and staff.
We vow to continue to work together to build a culture where every person feels seen, supported, and empowered to be themselves.
Board of Trustees,
Black Gold School Division.
