Welcome Back
We are so excited to welcome you back to school! It is going to be a great year! We created this page as a means to communicate to you some upcoming information as it pertains to the start of the school year!

We hope that you all had a most wonderful summer break. Let me be the first to welcome to you a new school year! Whether you are new to our school or are returning, we are so very excited to welcome you back to the school.
You might recall four pillars that are essential to our work here at the school:
- “Taking Care of You” is a very important pillar that we stand behind at RBES. Over the summer, we strongly encouraged our staff to take some time to recharge the batteries for the upcoming school year. We hope that our Robina families were able to do the same thing!
- “Let Learning Guide You” allows us to focus on conversations with our staff, students, and parents to be focused around how to be the best learners possible. Our staff work incredibly hard and stay up to date with the most current research which guides their instruction. We will continue to focus on helping our students to become Visible Learners throughout this year. At some point throughout the year, you can expect that when we talk we will always focus the conversation back to learning!
- “Communication is Key” is a pillar we also firmly stand by. Whether it be the communication from our teachers on their classroom blogs, emails, or phone calls, we strive to ensure you stay connected. In addition, each Friday afternoon you can expect to receive the Principal’s Corner with all the most up-to-date information about our learning community.
- “Trust” is our final pillar and one that never take for granted. We thank you with all of our hearts that you are entrusting us to take care of your kiddos while they are with us.
We hope that that short overview of our pillars helps you to understand the commitment we have here at Robina Baker! In the Principal’s Corner next Friday, I will share with you more messaging which I always do with our teachers on their first day back to school (which is Monday).
Please take some time to review the important information below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Mr. Coffin & Mrs. Kirton
Homeroom Assignments
We know that many parents and students are curious to hear about who their homeroom teacher will be. On Monday, August 26th, you will receive confirmation of your child’s homeroom classroom along with a letter from the teacher introducing themselves. You can click on this button below to see the homeroom assignments.
Welcome Back BBQ
We are excited to invite you all for a Welcome Back BBQ on Tuesday, August 27. Follow your nose – come to the front door for a bite to eat then head into the school to tour around and meet the teachers in their classrooms. Stop by anytime between 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. We’ve coordinated our plan with Riverview in case any families have siblings at the middle school.
Enjoy a hot dog, bring in your school supplies, and reconnect with all the other Raptors!
First Day of School (Grade 1-4)
The first full day of school for students in Grades 1-4 is Wednesday, August 28th. All students are welcome through the front doors of the school. Staff will help direct students to their classrooms. Please share your first day of school photos with us – you can email Mrs. Horrocks.
First Day of School (Kindergarten)
Kindergarten Students begin their school year with staggered entry. Kindergarten teachers will be in touch when your child is scheduled to come for their staggered entry time. Staggered entry allows an opportunity for teachers to go through the routines with fewer students.
The first full day of Kindergarten will take place on:
Monday/Wednesday Class – Friday, August 30th
Tuesday/Thursday Class – Tuesday, September 3rd
Early Intervention Pre-Kindergarten Parents – Mrs. Porter will contact you regarding orientation visits, staggered entry dates, and all other details as it pertains to Pre-Kindergarten.
Before School Routine and Bell Times
The first bell of the day is at 8:25 a.m. Having your child arrive as close to this time is possible is best as this is about the time when the bus arrives at the school. Please DO NOT send your children to school prior 8:20 a.m. as there is no supervision outside until that time. Last Spring we trialed having students play in the park areas as they would have during recess. We will continue with this routine again this year. Before School, students in Grades 1-4 will be permitted to play on the new park, old park, or in the fields.
Once the bell rings, students will need to go to their entrances.
If you need childcare prior to 8:20, please contact Happy Kids Childcare to see if they have availability for before-school care.

Volunteers
We would love for our parents to be involved in our school culture! If you are interested in volunteering at the school please know that YOU ARE WELCOME! Please watch for future updates with a Google Form.
Transportation
Students who ride on Division school buses require a bus pass and must apply for busing each year. This includes:
Eligible (students attending their designated school who reside 1 km or more away (K – Gr. 6), or 2 km or more away (Gr. 7-12));
Ineligible (students attending their designated school who reside 1 km or less away (K – Gr.6), or 2 km or less away (Gr. 7-12)), and
Bus Passes
Bus passes are specific to each student and will have their name and school on the pass. Bus passes are required and each time the student enters or exits the school bus they will tap the pass on the reader pad. If the pass has been misplaced, replacement passes can be purchased online by logging in to your parent PowerSchool Parent portal under the “Student Fees and Forms”.
Please contact Transportation at [email protected] for any questions.
School Supplies
If you have not yet picked up your school supplies, you can find information on our website by clicking below.
Absence Reporting
Thank you for taking the time to let us know that your child will not be at school. Please complete this quick form, or call the office and leave a message at 780-987-3705.
Cell Phones / Bring Your Own Devices
As you might be aware, in June, the Government of Alberta implemented Standards for the Use of Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media in Schools. The impact of this is rather insignificant within our school since the majority of our students do not have a mobile device. That being said, as we have in the past, should your child come to school with a mobile device, this device must remain off and in their backpack for the entirety of the day. Our School Division is currently developing their policy around this as they have until January 1st to do so. Stay tuned for more information. If you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Coffin.
Office Hours
Please note that the office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every day. Our office is a very busy place at lunch hour, as such please limit contact to the office between 12:15 and 12:45 p.m. to allow us to support the students needing assistance in the school. If you call and it goes to voicemail, please leave a message and we’ll return your call as soon as we are able to!
