Admin Corner:
We’ve made it to our Winter Break. During the break, we really hope you are able to “Take Care of You” (and your family).
As we head into the holidays, I’ve been reflecting a lot about community:
On Saturday morning, my family will be heading east to the lovely Saskatchewan to spend the holidays in the small town I grew up in. If you know anyone from Saskatchewan there are usually small degrees of separation. Whether you know the town or perhaps distant cousins there is always a connection. The community I grew up in reminds me a lot of Devon and that has been evidenced this week.
When times get tough, a community comes together. Unfortunately this week members of our community suffered a loss due to a fire. This hit close to home as the fire directly impacted and displaced one of our families. What you might not know is that behind the scenes, all of our schools came together to ensure that supports were coordinated with our lovely Town of Devon Family and Community Services. Our thoughts go out to those impacted.
A community is made up of the people within it. This week, we had a significant increase in respiratory illness resulting in many of our students and staff needing to stay home to get healthy. Thank you to everyone for reaching out and especially to our staff who bound together and supported each other. This is something that I, as principal, see every day at this school. We have a united staff that sticks together to ensure we are doing right by students and families.
We also want to express our gratitude towards our parents and community members who have popped in this week with treats and kind words for our staff. Our students as well showered the staff with cards and warm wishes. We are all so lucky to be part of this wonderful community.
Finally, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to both Ms. Ossinger as well as Mr. Mcnamara. They both took on temporary assignments in our building and did so with grace. We are excited to welcome back Mrs. Rothfos and Mrs. Milson after the break.
With that, the break is upon us and it’s time for our staff (and students) to take a break. Our staff will focus their attention on their families and friends to fill their buckets so they can be the best they can be for students when we return on January 8th. As such, you may receive a “vacation response” from staff if you reach out. We’ll all be back and ready to respond come January 8th.
Have a safe and happy holiday!
Mr. Coffin
