QUICK NOTE: HOT LUNCH
We are aiming to have all Hot Lunch orders for any single month posted on PowerSchool at the beginning of each month. They will still be posted separately for each week so that families that prefer to order weekly are able to. Those that prefer to order once per month, can access all the weekly orders for the month in one transaction if preferred. There will still be weekly deadlines, however, as we are trying to give families the flexibility to choose how often they would like to go into PowerSchool to order.
Please note: We have been posting a list of upcoming dates on this blog and also the RBES calendar has all upcoming events listed, so please be sure to check regularly so that you avoid ordering on field trip or special event days. If you have any questions, please let us know or visit our HOT LUNCH PAGE.
WINTER WALK & WELLNESS
We were so lucky to end the week with some mild weather and our students enjoyed some sunshine on their Winter Walk and recess time. Thank you to all that volunteered and joined us on our walk.
Our second of three Wellness Days was a wonderful success and many students were very excited to share their stories from the day. We are still compiling some of the pictures and a number of photos have been shared by classroom teachers, however, you can click on the links below to see some photos from both days.
Thank you to the assembly team for this month. They are leading us in O’ Canada and also help with some activities in our Friday assemblies.
We finished our good manners theme this week and were excited to start our Kindness theme. There will be a number of events and activities throughout the month to give students extra opportunities to practice random acts of kindenss.
You can see our agenda by clicking on the button below:
Our students love our random prize draws in assemblies! This week, we had some extra books to give away. You can see this week’s lucky draw recipients below:
FEBRUARY IS KINDNESS MONTH
For the past several years, February has been a month focused on Random Acts of Kindness (RAK). The students participate in a challenge to practice at least one RAK each day. If they are “caught” doing their RAK, they are sent down to the office to sign a chart. Each chart has squares for 100 acts of kindness. In the past, we fill 3-4 charts each month. This year, the students are excited to aim for 500 RAKs and fill 5 charts. That is a big number, but is a direct result from discussions during our assembly time.
Students have also been creating Kindness Cards for the last 4 years at our school and during Covid these cards replaced traditional Valentine Card exchanges and was our creative way around restrictions. Although the Kindness Cards were meant to support the traditional idea of making something from the heart for Valentine’s Day, many students made cards throughout the month and gave them out to other students and staff and some even took some home for family members. Making something from the heart and sharing kind messages with each other brings much joy to many throughout the month and is a fantastic way to ensure all are able to participate in an exchange on February 14. We will certainly acknowledge that it is Valentine’s Day, like we would any other special holiday, but the focus will be on friendship and kindness so that all students are able to participate in the activities of the day.
** As mentioned in a previous email, please do not send Valentine cards or treats to school. All classes will be involved in fun activities, students will exchange kindness cards they have made at school, and families are encouraged to send a special treat for their child to have on this day. We will also have a Pink, Red, and White dress up day for those who are interested.
February also includes activities and events that focus on friendship skills, wellness (being kind to our bodies and our minds), and of course the younger grades do activities surrounding the 100th day of school.
Six years ago we did a school wide project for Pink Shirt Day. It was a video that incorporated everyone in the school. You can see it here:
After exciting conversations with the Kindness Club and presenting the idea at our last assembly, we are going to try to do an updated version of this video. When we originally did this project, we had a few sponsors and we had a special one-time collaboration with Shaw Cable. We were fortunate to have Shaw Cable come do all the filming professionally and their team edited and produced the final video. We don’t have access to those same resources this time around and so we will kick off the filming and the start of this project on Pink Shirt Day but will aim to have a finished project by the end of the year. Please reach out to Mrs. Kloschinsky if you are interested in more details regarding this project or have a special talent or connection that can help support the creation of this updated video.
For your convenience, here is a snapshot of our activities for the month of February. It is certainly a busy one. Please note that there are two dress-up days. More information on the Family Event will come out next week.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Kindergarten registration is now open for the 2023-2024 school year.
Children may begin Kindergarten in a school within the Black Gold School Division in September if they are at least 4 years 8 months old as of August 31 of the respective school year.
We encourage families to register early as this helps us with our planning. Please note that programs and class preferences are subject to change based on enrollment, space and program viability.
