    FIRST VIRTUAL ASSEMBLY

In honor of Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we held our first virtual assembly on Wednesday, September 29. You can read the agenda by clicking HERE. There are a few links you can click on in the agenda if you are interested to see some of what the students are learning.

Also, we started up our Lucky Duck activity again. For those new to “Lucky Ducks”, each staff member picks a fun rubber duck. The twin duck goes into a draw bucket. The class names the duck, and throughout the year, ducks are drawn out of the bucket for prizes, activities, and other fun things. This started as a way to support staff wellness last year, however, it has grown into an activity that the students just love. Our first draw was for a book. The “Lucky Duck” had to choose a class to pay it forward to. Mrs. Horrocks won the book, A Voice for the Spirit Bears, and she passed it on to Mrs. Milson and 3B. Mrs. Horrocks exclaimed that although it was hard to pick just one class, when she saw the title of the book, she knew that Mrs. Milson and her love of animals was the perfect choice. I hear from the class, that they just loved the story and were excited to win a class prize!

    ORANGE SHIRT DAY

Orange Shirt Day was well supported by our staff and students on September 29. Various stories and activities were seen throughout all of our classrooms as we prepared for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Mrs. Milson’s 3B class did an interesting project where they compared life at RBES to life in a Residential School and the following word art images were created on powerful word imagery that they came up with in a class brainstorm.

Many of our classes did interesting projects and almost all staff and students dressed in Orange to acknowledge the importance of this day. You can see more pictures by CLICKING ON THIS LINK.

    TERRY FOX WALK

Our students and staff enjoyed a beautiful fall day on Friday to do our Terry Fox Walk. Things were slightly different this year and we had a shorter route, but our students still enjoyed the event and many of you supported the Terry Foundation with an online donation. Thank you so much! If you would still like to make a donation, you can click on this link:

    SCHOOL COUNCIL & FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

Thank you to all that participated in our virtual parent meetings this week for both the School Council and Fundraising Committee. We have lots of great things lined up for the year and will do our best to work around Covid-19 and it’s ongoing challenges.

PLEASE HELP! We are currently looking for a Fundraising Committee President. This person essentially runs the meetings and keeps tabs on the various fundraising projects. You would have a great support team around you, many who have been a part of the group for a few years. The Committee currently provides funding for Mathletics, Student Agendas, and Classroom Budgets. As well, a committee within the committee is dedicated to raising funds for our new playground. The Playground Committee reports to the Fundraising Committee, however, separate fundraising initiatives are set aside specifically for the playground.

If you or someone you know would be interested in working with our Fundraising Committee, please email: [email protected]
