    Connection

It’s hard to believe we have made it to the middle of October. I’d like to focus on “Connection” in this week’s message. Next week will be our first opportunity for our families to sit down in a more formal way to connect with staff during our conferences. On this evening as well we are going to have the gym open and some games/cards set up. Please feel free to stop in as a family and play a round of games – a great way to connect as a family and with other families! We’d love to see you! The games night is come and go. Our Mental Health Capacity Building team will also be present and very helpful! Finally, our book fair will also be open!

Our School Council is an active and important part of our community. On Wednesday next week is a special event where many parents from across our school division will come together for an evening of connection and learning. The Black Gold School Division’s  Board of Trustees is once again proud to sponsor an evening of learning with the Alberta School Councils Association (ASCA). This is an invitation for ALL school community members to attend the ASCA presentation entitled “Effective Engagement in your School Community”  at the Maclab Theatre in Leduc. The doors open at 6:00.  There will be snacks, refreshments and fellowship.  The presentation begins at 6:30 and will last approximately 90 minutes.

I am aware of a couple of members from our school community who plan on attending. If you’d like more details please email Mr. Coffin

Wishing you a safe and wonderful weekend!

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Coffin

    Costume Parade

We are excited to host our annual student parade. Our parent community is welcome to attend as well. The parade will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31. Each class will sit in the gym and have an opportunity to march around the gym. PK and Kinder students not attending school on that day are welcome with their parents to join the parade! One final reminder to keep costumes age-appropriate and without weapons as we have lots of littles in our school!

Classroom teachers will determine what will best suit their classroom context when it comes to classroom parties.

    Socktober

The Grade 4 Leadership Team is looking for new socks in all sizes for Socktober! All of our donated socks will be given to the Mustard Seed.

Socktober was started in 2011 by one person and last year participants on all seven continents donated pairs of socks!

    November Hot Lunch

    Library Corner

Hello parents!  My name is Mrs. Hagel, and I am so happy to be the new librarian at Robina Baker.  I wanted to let everyone know that we will be running a Scholastic Book Fair from October 24th to 26th, and we will be open during parent/teacher interviews.  Every dollar spent at our Book Fair goes towards putting new books in the hands of our students.  I’m looking forward to seeing you there.

    School Safety

Schools are one of the safest places in our communities. Nonetheless, an emergency can strike anywhere, and at any time. During an emergency, our first priority is
the safety of our students and staff. In order to provide an effective response to any school emergency Black Gold School Division, in partnership with the Hour Zero
protocols utilized by emergency response agencies throughout North America, has developed an Emergency Response Plan.

All staff is regularly trained on emergency protocols. Throughout the year, we conduct training and drills to rehearse emergency procedures and help better prepare students and staff for possible emergency situations. These exercises prepare students and staff to act quickly and help to minimize a child’s fear during a real emergency.

At Robina Baker, to ensure the safety of all students and staff, please ensure you are using the FRONT DOORS when visiting the school. Please check into the office when you arrive.

    Girl’s Clothes

In the office, we often need to lend out clothes to students who have had accidents, spilled lunch, jumped in a puddle, or a variety of other situations that require a change of clothes. Currently, we are so low on girl’s pants and leggings. If you have any gently used items you can donate to the school that would be great!
